In the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, way down at definition 5 (b), "passion" is defined as: "a strong liking, or desire for, or devotion to some activity, object, or concept."  Are you passionate about your profession? This may sound like a cliche, but it really isn't.  Let me tell you why...

Sitting on my deck last night, I was once again amazed by a squirrel's ability to run full tilt across a very high tree branch and throw itself, without hesitation, across open sky at least 10 times wider than the length of its own body.  It occurred to me that this was not just animal athleticism, it was also this squirrel's single minded focus on the task at hand which was getting to the next tree so that it could continue towards its ultimate objective. I will never know if that was food, shelter for the night, or finding its mate... I should set up a spy cam.  

In business, if we applied this level of focus, energy and commitment to the individual tasks that lead to strategic objectives, image what we could certainly achieve!  

How quickly can you demotivate those that report to you?  In about as much time as it takes to insult their intelligence for reasons that can only be justified after at least 6 double shots of Jack Daniels...
